Well, I've gone kind of under ground since the whole Stephen Colbert press core thing. As a fellow Charlestonian, I felt it best to stay out of the blogospheric crosswinds.
Actually, I just haven't really been near a bloggable computer (only at a laptop where the k and i doesn't work… not that eye use those letters often) as I spent the week taking care of my lovely puppy. Combine that with having time to watch about a half of soccer this week thanks to a wedding Saturday (and MLS's incompetence in being unable to get the archives up) and it makes for a pretty soccer-less week. I was also sick with a nasty cold all week, my throat is still killing me. The good thing is I left work a little early with a 101 degree fever on Tuesday and caught the TiVo of the Chelsea-ManU match they showed earlier on FoxSS. I knew Rooney was going to get hurt, and I have to say it didn't look that bad on TV. It looked like any normal foul… that's just how things go sometime.
I have to say though, it had been a while since I had the opportunity to watch a European match, especially one involving prominent sides. I must say, it's like night and day when comparing that to the MLS. The MLS looks purely amateurish in comparison. The runs and passes Chelsea (and to a lesser extent ManU) made were things you'd never see in the MLS. Even when Chelsea were playing long balls, their defenders actually knew how to clear it to the right man. The MLS keep away looks sloppy compared to Chelsea. It just seemed like the spacing in the game was far superior than the MLS pinball you see every week. Just had to get that off my chest as I syke myself up for the World Cup.
Anyway, hopefully I'll get to watch some soccer this weekend. I'm washing clothes, which means I should get most of the day to myself. I'm also getting the best MLS goals from 1996-2003 on DVD from Netflix tomorrow, so that should be interesting. Not sure the goals on there, but I'm pretty excited about the possibilities.
Oh yeah, and I'd comment on the games for tomorrow if not for my compete lack of knowledge on anything that's happened in like the past two weeks. I will say I'm playing around with creating a database of MLS events, hopefully something that can be like a baseball-reference to the MLS. The only thing is I really don't know if I have the time, but I think a collaborative endevor for something like this would be awesome.
And in closing… Ching over Twellman? I know we need another aerial guy, but damn, Ching has been useless for the Nats. I'm also not a huge Conrad for the Nats fan, but I really just don't like Berhalter, so no complaining. Not really a fan of Albright either, but I'm also an unabashed Frankie hater (though I'd prefer if he didn't get injured and Albright had simply beat him out).
